The two control switches on the right side of this band are actually 1970's-era transistors. The finned grip ring in front of the band is from a World War I grenade. The rear grip and front emitter have yet to be positively identified, but they appear to be some type of gear and gas burner head, respectively. The prop makers for A New Hope masterfully combined these disparate parts into one coherent design.
