Removing bayonet top, tube shock absorbers is always a tough job. The stem is impossible to hold once the socket is in place in the retainer nut. The center piece of this two-part tool has a "stem socket" on each end to hold the shock stem. The outer piece is a double-sided socket (one end is 9/16" the other 15mm) which fits most shock retainer nuts.
