 | The Pressure's Off by Larry Crabb There are two basic approaches to life--two pathways. One creates pressure, the other provides freedom. In the Old Way of life, as best-selling author, psychologist, and spiritual director Larry Crabb describes it, you have decided that what you most want out of life is within your reach, and you are doing whatever you believe it takes to get it. But in the New Way of life, you have realized that what you most want is beyond your reach, and you are trusting God for the satisfaction you seek. You want Him. Nothing less, not even His blessings, will do. The Old Way--the way most Christians define life and pursue fulfillment--is fundamentally wrong and harmful. It leaves us tired, in bondage, and feeling distant from God. But the New Way brings true freedom and refreshment as we tap into the power to draw closer to God in a personal way. | Counterpoints/Four Views on Hell by William Crockett Four Views On Hell meet this subject head on and propose different views of what the Scriptures say about hell. Many Christians still hold to a literal understanding of hell, that it is a place of eternal smoke and flames. John F. Walvoord is a strong advocate of this view. William V. Crockett defends a metaphorical view, seeing hell as a place of eternal conscious punishment but not necessarily as being a literal fire. | The Truth, the Way, the Life by B. H. Roberts, Erich R. Paul, Stan Larson, Sterling M. McMurrin, Thom D. Roberts Less than ten years before his death in 1933, B. H. Roberts, one of the most influential Mormon writers of the twentieth century, began work on the most important book that I have yet contributed to the Church. A prolific and respected defender of Mormon beliefs, Roberts wanted to consolidate LDS theological thought into a unified whole and to reconcile science with scripture. His final manuscript, The Truth, the Way, the Life, synthesized doctrine into three sections: the truth about the world and revelation, the way of salvation, and Jesus` life in shaping Christian character. He submitted his completed work to the LDS First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve, which, after a series of heated meetings, rejected it. Roberts`s views on evolution, the age of the earth, the pre-earth existence, and the eternal progression of God were deemed too controversial, so his masterwork went unpublished. With the support of the Roberts family, editor Stan Larson has corrected this sixty-year omission from the corpus of Mormon theology. AUTHOR: B. H. Roberts, Erich R. Paul, Stan Larson, Sterling M. McMurrin, Thom D. Roberts PUBLISHER: Signature Books, Incorporated FORMAT: Paperback CATEGORY: Religion & Spirituality
