Jane was found not guilty of murder, but the Crown's appeal resulted in a six-month sentence for manslaughter. Jane was released from jail after serving two months. After her release, she rebuilt her shattered life, and became a tireless fighter against criminal violence in the home. But despite the apparent normalcy of Jane's life, she was unable to free herself from the legacy of Billy's violence. Police investigated threats and hate mail.. In February 1992, Jane's body was found in a car on the Halifax waterfront. Cause of death was a gunshot wound to the chest, a handgun was found beside her.
