Patton & Battle of the Bulge by Gladys Greenaway, Michael Green

Patton & Battle of the Bulge by Gladys Greenaway, Michael Green
Having trumped Rommel in North Africa, played a reluctant supporting role to Montgomery in Italy, and fought across France after D-Day, General George S. Patton and his Third Army ran up against a desperate German counter-offensive at the Battle of the Bulge in the bitter cold of December 1944. From the panzer attacks in the Belgian forests to the Third Army's determined drive to the Rhine, the authors explain each facet of the critical battle in detail, while explicating the strategies, opinions, and thoughts of the mercurial military genius. The text is supported with a wealth of photography from before, during and after the battle, much of it previously unpublished. An excellent resource for Patton buffs and neophyte military historians alike.

Heaven's Mirror by Graham Hancock

    Heaven's Mirror by Graham Hancock
Scattered around the world from Mexico to India and from Egypt to Peru are a number of ancient and mysterious structures that all share the same following characteristics: we don't know when they were built, how they were built, why they were built or who built them. These structures frequently feature megalithic architecture and utilize precise, highly sophisticated geometry. Also, these buildings are placed according to specific astronomical alignments and symbolism. Heaven's Mirror sets out to unravel this confounding mystery of the ancient world. It is written and photographed to offer readers unique insights into the enigma and meaning of the ancient secret -- the lost science and high wisdom that was once wielded by the architects and astronomer-priests of stellar cities in Mexico, Egypt, Bolivia, and South-East Asia. This exciting new book has the atmosphere and pace of an active investigation in which a clear and coherent picture is gradually pieced together out of a gigantic jumbled jigsaw puzzle. At the same time, the rich visual input provided by Santha Faiia's photographs will give readers a real appreciation for the magic and mystery of the series of ancient sites which will serve as the scaffolding around which the book will be constructed.

The Johnstown Flood by David McCullough, Grover Gardner

The Johnstown Flood by David McCullough, Grover Gardner
This is a history of the Johnstown Flood. On May 31, 1889, following a storm, the old earth dam at Lake Conemaugh--outside of Johnstown, Pennsylvania--burst. The torrent of water which that flooded the Little Conemaugh River Valley killed over 2,000 people. The lake was home to the South Fork Fishing and Hunting Club, the membership of which included some of the richest men in America; Andrew Carnegie, Henry Clay Frick, and Andrew Mellon. The club had let the dam go neglected, and the deaths resulting from its bursting led to a national scandal; the members of the club escaped without any harm to their reputations.
