P-61 Black Widow Units of World War 2 by Warren Thompson
The first aircraft ever designed specifically as a radar-equipped nightfighter was Northrop`s twin-engined P-61. With four .50 caliber machine guns, two 20-millimeter cannons, and a bulky radar unit mounted in its nose, the Black Widow was also the largest fighter ever procured for service by the USAAF. Complemented by a gallery of rare archival photographs, the text includes firsthand accounts from P-61 pilots and gunners who saw action over the Pacific, Europe, and the Mediterranean, as well as an analysis of the pioneering radar-influenced tactics employed by these airmen. Thirty specially commissioned color drawings illustrate the many markings worn by the P-61 and the uniforms of the airmen.

Burning All Illusions by Paula Giddings

Burning All Illusions by Paula Giddings
BURNING ALL ILLUSIONS is a collection from The Nation archives of the best writing on race and civil rights from the magazine's founding in 1865 to the present. It features selections by insurgent American writers representing a diverse range of political and personal points of view that illuminate The Nation's steadfast commitment to racial justice, each infused with the moral passion and urgency that the subject demands. The writers in this anthology have addressed these questions not to embitter but to provoke, educate, arouse, and inspire. James Baldwin once wrote that the story of the Negro in America is the story of America--It is not a very pretty story. Baldwin and others in this collection shed light on the ugliness of American racism to certify that it is intolerable, that America can--and must--do better. Selected contributors: Sherwood Anderson, James Baldwin, Derrick Bell, Horace R. Cayton, W. E. B. Du Bois, Ralph Ellison, Langston Hughes, LeRoi Jones, Martin Luther King, Jr., Claude McKay, Cary McWilliams, Adolf Reed, Jr., Oswald Garrison Villard, John Edgar Wideman, Roger Wilkins, and Howard Zinn.

Story of American Jewish Power by J. J. Goldberg

Story of American Jewish Power by J. J. Goldberg
Establishments of every kind seem to prompt either awe or antipathy from those outside their confines, and the American Jewish establishment has certainly come in for its share of both during the 20th century. All the more reason, therefore, to appreciate veteran journalist J.J. Goldberg's achievement in writing Jewish Power , his provocative and insightful review of the impact and effectiveness of America's Jewish organizations in the postwar era. A contributing editor of Jerusalem Reports , Goldberg displays equal command of both his subject and his audience--his own essential regard for the community he has so assiduously chronicled is tempered by his long practice in writing for mainstream audiences outside that community. The result is a fresh look at some old institutions and the myths and misperceptions about Jewish organizational power in the 20th century that will give Jews and non-Jews alike much to reflect upon.
